USING ARCGIS AND BIT TO PLAN REHABILITIATION STRATEGIES FOR THE WATER SUPPLY NETWORK IN OSLO, NORWAY

Oslo municipality, with a population of 645.000 inhabitants, plans to invest over 200 mill Euro for upgrading the water supply networks in the coming 10 year as a follow up of the previous 10 years investment plan just completed.
The preparation of the upcoming plan has comprised a significant upgrading of the network information system using the Norwegian GIS technology (ArcGIS and GEMINI) and MIKE Urban platform for water network modelling. In addition, the use of a pipe scanner (Vangdal, 2011) for condition monitoring and assessment of existing networks provides an important basis for the rehab planning.
